For as long as I could remember, I have been besotted by the art of walking through a city, in order to experience it.
My urban walks and food tours are choreographed journeys that help us have nuanced understandings of cities. They are less about ‘sightseeing’ and more about the idea of reading and place-making, tuning into the myths, migrations, rituals, and ingredients that have shaped urban life across time. I guide participants through streets not only as a cartographer, but as a listener, a curious forager, and a myth-maker.
For five years, I was a culinary navigator and presenter with Frying Pan Adventures in Dubai, and personally, as a customer, I never pass up the opportunity to embark on a food or walking tour in a city. Food, in these walks, acts as both compass and archive. A simple bite might lead us into a tale of empire, exile and resistance, but allow us to fall deeply in love with a place, embracing its good, the bad and the dusty.
I have led walks across Dubai, Sharjah and Amman with Frying Pan Adventures, Sharjah Art Foundation, Art Dubai and Amman Design Week.
Watch this space as I build a series of new itineraries across Amman, that merge her layered histories- myth and magic, with its current state. These walks are a blend of critical, curious and delicious.
